In keeping with the tradition of bringing you everything in Lightship Models that I find, here is a great, rare book on how to model the Lightship Portsmouth that I recently bought on ebay. Quite a find!

'Modeling the Lightship Portsmouth' by George H. Pyles

Published 1995 by Phoenix Publications, Inc.

Black and white photos and drawings, including a fold out plan, drawn in 1/4 scale.

Model as built by George Pyle and discussed in detail in the book.

Plans are included.

The author goes into great detail in how to produce a museum- quality model and explains each step so even the beginner can understand. It also includes full size patterns and templates for building the hull, as well as plans for the whaleboats, light tower and Jigger mast, deck fitting, etc...

Plans included can also be used to build a reproduction of the Lightship Stonehorse

George recently contacted Lightship Modeler
"Enclosed are some photos of the model I did of Portsmouth. It was started over 30 years ago, so it has aged well." "The book was a real education for me, I don't think I would do it again without laing it out for the modeler to better understand the process. The drawings in the book were done on paper with pen, since then I have done them in cad and a detail sheet of the details that are shown in the book and some other details if anyone is interested." "I have also done other craft of the Hampton Roads area if anyone has an interest. Sorry, no other Lightships YET!"
